It is not necessary that a new priority list be submitted each year by the counties or cities. The Department can work from the existing priority list until these projects have been approved. A county or city may revise a priority list at any time they desire but the county or city should be encouraged to maintain the existing list in tact unless changes in needs occur which would necessitate moving a project up on the priority list. With the limitation of available funding, it is impractical to submit a lengthy priority list and it is suggested that a priority list be confined to not more than ten projects or priorities. All types of work, should be included in the same priority list with only one ranking.
The Field Investigation Check List should included traffic, using available traffic counts or an estimated count. The evaluation of the need for the project should be included on the check list.
This information regarding priority lists should be disseminated to the counties and cities as necessary in normal meetings or contacts with the counties and cities.
