Stabilizer Aggregate, Soil Aggregate Base, Graded Aggregate Base & Aggregate Surface Course Construction

See document history

Effective immediately, Item #303 - Stabilizer Aggregate, Item #304 -Soil Aggregate Base, Item #310 - Graded Aggregate Base and Item #318 - Aggregate Surface Course set up on County Contract estimates on either a per ton or per square yard basis, shall have the price calculated as described below. The price for this material by the square yard will be calculated utilizing the procedure for a per ton basis as shown and then dividing the number of square yards per ton into the calculated price per ton.

2" = 12.84 sq. yd./ton (loose)
4" = 6.42 sq. yd./ton (loose)
6" = 4.28 sq. yd./ton (loose)
4" = 4.83 sq. yd./ton (compacted)
6" = 3.22 sq. yd./ton (compacted)
8" = 2.41 sq. yd./ton (compacted)

The per ton basis is optional on shoulders, low side of curves, sag verticals, drives, turnouts, and etc. Where economically advantageous, the per square yard basis is recommended.

Soil Aggregate Base Course and Graded Aggregate Base Course:

      Maximum Allowable Prices:
            Material:= $8.00/Ton (includes first 15 miles haul)
            Haul:= $0.10/Miles (over 15 miles)
            Manipulation:= $1.00/Ton

The prime should be figured using the following method:

current average
unit price
x rate of application
per Sq. Yd.
x Sq. Yds. per
Cu. Yd.
divided by tons per
Cu. Yd.
= Price per ton

The additional cost for prime should be figured using the following method:

      Multiply the following factors by the current price per gallon. This will establish a cost per ton to be used in the total price per ton for base.

      Prime Factors:
      4" base:       1.2077 Gal/Tn
      6" base:       0.8052 Gal/Tn
      8" base:       0.6039 Gal/Tn
      10" base:       0.4831 Gal/Tn
      (i.e.: Using 6" GAB or Soil Aggregate Base Course, the additional cost for prime is calculated by multiplying $0.69/Gal [the current cost for prime] x 0.8052 Gal/Tn [the factor for 6" base] - $0.56/Tn)

      Example for Graded Aggregate Base Course or Soil Aggregate Base Course, 6", Haul=30 miles:
            Material:= $8.00
            Haul: 20 miles minus 15 miles = 5 miles @ $0.10 per mile = $0.50
            Manipulation= $1.00
            Prime: $0.69 x 0.8052= $0.56
                  $10.06 per ton total
Stabilizer Aggregate and Aggregate Surface Course:

      Maximum allowable prices:
            Material:= $8.00/Ton (includes first 15 miles haul)
            Haul:= $0.10/Mile (over 15 miles)

      Example for Stabilizer Aggregate or Aggregate Surface Course Haul=30 miles:
            Material:= $8.00
            Haul: 30 miles minus 15 miles =
15 miles @ $0.10 per mile
= $1.50
         $9.50 per ton total
