Preparation of County/City Contract Estimates

See document history

All county/city contract estimates will be prepared using the 1993 edition of the Standard Specifications and the 1995 metric edition of the Standard Specifications. The following procedure should be used in preparing these estimates:

  1. The entire upper section of the estimate sheet should be filled in completely, unless it is not applicable to a particular project.

  2. A brief description of the existing road should be defined on the estimate sheet.

  3. The proposed construction should be filled in, such as grading, drainage, construction of a culvert with the culvert size, and any other pertinent information pertaining to the project.

  4. The beginning and ending termini of the project and either a present traffic count or a realistic estimated traffic count.

  5. The item number and code number, as well as any prefix after the code number, will be required along with a complete description of the item that is to be constructed.

  6. Any special notes pertaining to the construction of project, such as obligations of the County, should no longer be placed on the estimate sheet. These notes should be made a part of the Typical Section, which should be good, legible Typical Section, capable of being reproduced and still readable.

  7. A map which is capable of being reproduced and still readable, should be attached to the estimate, showing the beginning and ending of the project by arrows marked with a black marking pen.

  8. Under "Description of Project" on the Field Investigation Check List" the description should be complete, tying its beginning and ending termini to local landmarks.

  9. Under "Item No. 7" on the Field Investigation Check List", you should provide a brief resume of the feasibility of the proposed projects.

It is essential that the estimates be prepared in this manner. If you have any questions concerning this, please contact the Office of State Aid.
