The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) recognizes that, due to disability or personal religious beliefs, employment circumstances may arise which may create potential conflicts between the business needs of the Department and an employee’s assigned duties, responsibilities, work hours and/or work location.
It is the policy of the GDOT to attempt to make reasonable accommodations to employee work duties, schedules and locations provided those accommodations do not create an undue hardship on the mission or operations of the Department.
Any employee who desires to request an accommodation to duties, work hours or work location based upon disability or religious beliefs should present a written request to the employee’s supervisor. The request must include the reason(s) for the request, documentation to support the reason(s) and an explanation of the requested accommodation. The request will be forwarded to the appropriate Office Head/District Engineer.
The Office Head/District Engineer shall attach a recommendation of approval or denial and forward the request to the Office of Personnel for review and determination.
The Office of Personnel will review the request and the recommendation of the Office Head/District Engineer and issue a determination. If the determination of the Office of Personnel is not in agreement with the recommendation of the Office Head/District Engineer, the Office of Personnel will forward the request to the Deputy Commissioner for final determination.
The Office Head/District Engineer will notify the employee of the disposition of the request.
