Delegation of Authority for Imposing Adverse Actions

The Commissioner of the Georgia Department of Transportation, as the Appointing Authority for the Department, is authorized by law to impose adverse actions against employees in both the classified and unclassified service. The Commissioner has delegated this authority to the following officials within the Department:

  1. The Deputy Commissioner;
  2. The Chief Engineer;
  3. The Treasurer;
  4. All Division Directors;
  5. All District Engineers;
  6. All Office Heads assigned to the General Office; and
  7. Any other representatives or officials of the Department who are designated by the Deputy Commissioner, the Chief Engineer, the Treasurer or Division Directors, either by name or by role, in writing after this date.

For the purpose of imposing adverse actions, the terms Division Directors, Office Heads and District Engineers shall be determined by the official role and shall not necessarily be contingent upon official job titles. Also, said delegation of authority is for adverse actions of any employee, Classified (i.e., subject to the Rules of the State Personnel Board) or Unclassified (i.e., employed at will).

Additionally, the Commissioner delegates authority to all supervisors to accept verbal and/or written resignations on behalf of the Department.
