Update
GDOT meet with The Lions Group, Inc. June 6, to discuss their work schedule and intentions. They plan to mobilize back onto the project to begin work now that a lot of the utility conflicts are getting out of the way, primarily the water line as it relates to their ability to work at Dunwoody Place. The contractor agreed to begin work at Dunwoody Place first and focus more on this intersection while waiting on the remaining utility relocation to occur. The contractor is still in a claim status with the Department and desires to complete the work as soon as possible. At this time, the GDOT speculated completion dates, including the interim completions, will probably not change much.
The utility companies stated June 7 that they plan to be completed with their relocation work for both intersections by July 31, 2007.
From the May 9 meeting, the contractor made improvements to the Dunwoody intersection related to traffic control/visibility of the Hanover Place side road. Temporary gravel sidewalks were established for this project to handle pedestrian movement while under construction. MARTA has been contacted about temporarily relocating their stops, they have agreed but have yet to do it.
US Congressman Tom Price has been in contact with GDOT Commissioner Linnenkohl about this project and the importance of completing this work. The Commissioner has updated the Congressman and informed him that the contractor has agreed to move back in at Dunwoody Place and complete the project as soon as possible.
Mayor Galambos and Council Member Fries met with GDOT Commissioner Linnenkohl June 7 to express their concerns with the project status and the need to complete the work as soon as possible. The Commissioner updated them with our efforts and the commitment the contractor has given the Department – to move in now and complete the work as soon as possible.

Overview
The Georgia DOT has road improvement projects underway at the intersections of Roswell Road and Dunwoody Place, and Roswell Road and Northridge Road in Fulton County.
After numerous utility relocation delays, most of the utility companies are in the process of completing their work at these two intersections along Roswell Road.
As requested by the City of Sandy Springs, an additional right turn lane from Dunwoody Place to Roswell Road has been added to the project plans . Once completed, there will be dual right turn lanes at this intersection.
Time Frame
Work on these two intersection improvements will resume after utility companies have completed their relocations and contractual issues are worked out with the contractor.
Additional Work/Improvements
Georgia DOT has received complaints about the roughness of the entrance to Hanover Park Road. The contractor has placed temporary pavement at this entrance to make it smoother until the permanent pavement can be installed. Additionally, the contractor has placed temporary pavement at all of the business driveways that were disturbed by project work.
Impact on Travel
Motorists are encourage to plan alternate routes and allow extra travel time in anticipation of traffic delays. Motorists can access the latest traffic conditions by contacting the Georgia NaviGAtor at 1-888-635-8287 or by visiting the web site at www.georgia-navigator.com.
Safety
The Georgia DOT is dedicated to providing safe conditions for both motorists and workers on our roadways. As with any construction project, motorists should slowdown, be alert and pay special attention to all work zone signs, pavement markings and traffic control devices. Motorists are also urged to avoid unnecessary lane changes; allow extra distance between themselves and the vehicle ahead; and to exercise extreme caution while driving through these work zones.
