McGinnis Ferry Road Widening Project
Forsyth / Fulton County

News

Back to state routes construction page.

Georgia DOT will begin a widening project on McGinnis Ferry Road from Sargent Road to the Chattahoochee River, in late July 2007. The project, which will impact 5 miles of roadway, is scheduled to be completed on July 31, 2010.

Overview

McGinnis Ferry Road will be widened from two lanes to four lanes, doubling current traffic capacity in the area. The construction along this corridor will include sidewalks and a raised median, contributing to improved safety and traffic flow. The project scope also includes utility work, such as the relocation of 36 large transmission poles.

Impact on Travel

During construction, lane closures are necessary for safety purposes and will be in place at night from 7:00 p.m. until 6:00 a.m. during the week and on weekends.

Traffic delays are to be expected. Please allow additional travel time and/or choose alternate routes during this construction project. There will be no construction during major holidays or in inclement weather.

Motorists are encourage to plan alternate routes and allow extra travel time in anticipation of traffic delays. Motorists can access the latest traffic conditions by contacting the Georgia NaviGAtor at 1-888-635-8287 or by visiting the web site at www.georgia-navigator.com.

Safety

The Georgia DOT is dedicated to providing safe conditions for both motorists and workers on our roadways. As with any construction project, motorists should slowdown, be alert and pay special attention to all work zone signs, pavement markings and traffic control devices. Motorists are also urged to avoid unnecessary lane changes; allow extra distance between themselves and the vehicle ahead; and to exercise extreme caution while driving through these work zones.
