I-285 @ Lawrenceville Hwy Interchange Reconstruction Project and Relocation of Montreal Road

Overview
This project consists of 1.933 kilometers of interchange reconstruction on US 29/ SR 8 (Lawrenceville Hwy) at I-285/ SR 407. The project will involve widening for additional lanes, grading, drainage, base, plant mix paving and ramp reconstruction; work also includes construction of a bridge and approaches over I-285/ SR 407 and the relocation of Montreal Rd.
The purpose of this project is to increase operational capacity of the interchange, improve flow on SR 8 through the interchange area and I-285 mainline, serve the transportation demand generated by employment and population growth, and improve the safety of the roadway
Time Frame
This project has an intermediate completion of July 1, 2008. This includes all work with the exception of Montreal Rd North. The overall completion date is December 31, 2008.

Total contract cost of the project is $23,312,671.00
Project Highlights
- Reconstruction and Widening of the existing Lawrenceville Hwy from two-lanes to three lanes in both directions
- Adding dual left turn lanes onto the Lawrenceville Hwy bridge to access I-285 north
- Adding dual left turn lanes onto Lawrenceville Hwy to access I-285 south
- Widening of Lawrenceville Hwy between Frazier Rd and Lovejoy Lane
- Installing raised median on Lawrenceville Hwy from west of Spruce Valley Dr to Lee Way
- Installing sidewalk throughout the project
- Relocating Montreal Circle to intersect with Montreal Rd North
- Relocating the Lawrenceville Hwy/Montreal Rd South intersection eastward to the existing Settelment Rd location
- Widening and reconstruction of the I-285 entrance and exit ramps

Safety
The Georgia DOT is dedicated to providing safe conditions for both motorists and workers on our roadways. As with any construction project, motorists should slowdown, be alert and pay special attention to all work zone signs, pavement markings and traffic control devices. Motorists are also urged to avoid unnecessary lane changes; allow extra distance between themselves and the vehicle ahead; and to exercise extreme caution while driving through these work zones.
