I-285 @ Memorial Drive Interchange Reconstruction Project
Dekalb County

 

Overview

This project consists of 0.865 mile of construction of a total of two bridges and approaches, widening of ramps and interchange reconstruction on I-285 at SR 10 (Memorial Drive); also includes relocation of George Luther Drive and installation of a CCTV system.

The purpose of this project is to increase operational capacity of the interchange, improve flow on SR 10 through the interchange area and I-285 mainline, serve the transportation demand generated by employment and population growth, and improve the safety and beauty of the Memorial Drive corridor.

 

 

Time Frame

The relocation of George Luther Drive shall be completed within 180 days from the start of construction work in that area. This project is scheduled for completion in December 31, 2008.

 

 

Project Cost

Total contract cost of the project is $54,819,816.48

 

 

Impact on Traffic

The contractor is not allowed to work at the following times:

Memorial Dr.(SR 10) and Side Roads I-285
Monday 5 am – 9:30 am & 3:30 pm – 7 pm Single lane closures are not permitted 5 am – 8 pm
Double lane closures are not permitted 5 am – 10 pm
Tuesday 5 am – 9:30 am & 3:30 pm – 7 pm Single lane closures are not permitted 5 am – 8 pm
Double lane closures are not permitted 5 am – 10 pm
Wednesday 5 am – 9:30 am & 3:30 pm – 7 pm Single lane closures are not permitted 5 am – 9 pm
Double lane closures are not permitted 5 am – 10 pm
Thursday 5 am – 9:30 am & 3:30 pm – 7 pm Single lane closures are not permitted 5 am – 9 pm
Double lane closures are not permitted 5 am – 10 pm
Friday 5 am – 9:30 am & 3:30 pm – 8 pm Single lane closures are not permitted 5 am – 9 pm

Safety

The Georgia DOT is dedicated to providing safe conditions for both motorists and workers on our roadways. As with any construction project, motorists should slowdown, be alert and pay special attention to all work zone signs, pavement markings and traffic control devices. Motorists are also urged to avoid unnecessary lane changes; allow extra distance between themselves and the vehicle ahead; and to exercise extreme caution while driving through these work zones.
