Public-Private Initiatives (PPI) Process
There are many different PPI options, and the structure differs from project to project. Traditionally, private sector participation in surface transportation projects has been limited to separate planning, design or construction contracts. Under a PPI structure, private sector responsibilities can be expanded through the use of partnerships ranging from combining typically separate service into a single procurement to leasing a facility to private sector partners.

What are the Benefits of PPIs?
- PPIs can leverage limited public funding with private resources to enable GDOT to focus on congestion relief and expedite project delivery.
- PPIs so far in Georgia have provided corridor solutions.
- More efficient than traditional “pay as you go” method.
- PPI brings innovation, new technology, finance and private resources to a project, which frees up state funding for other transportation needs.
- Whether or not a PPI proposal develops into a final contract, GDOT can utilize the PPI design and engineering documents.
