The mission of this Division is to develop a quality set of right of way plans, construction plans, and bid documents, through a cooperative effort, that results in a project design and implementation that is the best transportation value for the taxpayers of Georgia.

Assistant Director of Preconstruction

The Assistant Director oversees the following:

  • Plan Development Process (PDP)
  • GDOT Project Team Information (PTI)
  • Governor's Road Improvement Program (GRIP) Status
  • Centrally located, online access to GDOT design-related documents, standards, and applications
  • Included on the new web page: NEW GDOT Design Policy and Procedure Manuals, Electronic Data Guidelines, Plan Presentation Guide, Software specific files and documentation, etc.
  • The ADDS Committee has been restructured and is now the Plan Presentation Committee. More information is included on this web page, including the EDG.
Consultant Design Office of Environment / Location
  • Manages consultant contracts for highway and bridge design
  • Manages work order (on-call) consultant contracts
  • Responsible for design-build projects
  • Responsible for consultant prequalification
  • Responsible for establishing standards and procedures for the acquisition and delivery of design information
  • Develops concepts for projects in the preprogramming and preconstruction phases and project feasibility studies
  • Responsible for projects in the Construction Work Program that require future traffic projections
  • Responsible for technical studies to determine the environmental impacts of proposed highway projects
Office of Right of Way Office of Bridge and Structural Design
  • Responsible for designing highway project improvements in all areas of the state, however most projects are located in rural Georgia
  • Responsible for design of the Governors Road Improvement Program (GRIP), all rural interstate reconstruction projects, and widening of many state routes and other major roads and highways
  • Prepare project concepts, construction and right of way plans, and contract documents for project lettings
  • Responsible for structural design of highway bridges, culverts, retaining walls and other highway structures
  • Responsible for hydraulic design of bridge structures
Office of Urban Design Office of Road & Airport Design
  • Develops construction and right of way plans for roadways within the major urban areas of the state, which include metropolitan Atlanta, Savannah, Augusta, Macon, Albany, and Columbus
  • Manages the design of some intermodal passenger facilities such as the Atlanta Multi-Modal Passenger Terminal
  • Responsible for designing highway project improvements in all areas of the state, however most projects are located in rural Georgia
  • Responsible for design of the Governors Road Improvement Program (GRIP), all rural interstate reconstruction projects, and widening of many state routes and other major roads and highways
  • Prepare project concepts, construction and right of way plans, and contract documents for project lettings
