Butts-Jones-Monroe Multi-County Study
In May 2007, the Georgia Department of Transportation initiated the Butts, Jones, and Monroe Multi County Study which
will develop a multi-modal transportation plan for the three counties. The study is being conducted by HNTB, a
consultant firm under contract to the Department.
The purpose of this study is to develop individual transportation plans for each county and its municipalities that
will identify transportation needs and projects to satisfy future travel demand. However, the three counties
need to be evaluated as a whole in order to address development impacts and infrastructure deficiencies that cross
county lines. This study will evaluate and address the current and future transportation needs up to the year
2035.
Public participation will be a key component of the study. The study will develop a public participation plan
and document the input of the stakeholders and the general public. As part of the public participation process,
a study advisory group will be formed and utilized in each county. The study advisory group will be utilized
throughout the study.
The multi-modal transportation plan and recommended transportation improvements will be presented prior to the
conclusion of the study at public meetings in each county. The study is anticipated to be completed within
twelve months and will be completed by the end of June 2008.
