How Georgia Plans Transportation

  • How Georgia Plans Transportation Improvements is a flow-chart showing how a transportation improvement request ultimately becomes a completed project.  This link details the process of first presenting a project, a review of the project by planning agencies, the inclusion of the project in the Regional Transportation Plan (RTP) and the State Transportation Improvement Program (STIP), the public input process, funding, and finally, construction of the project.

State Transportation Improvement Program

Other Transportation Programs

  • Governor's Road Improvement Program (GRIP) was initiated in 1989 by a resolution of the state legislature and the Governor to connect 95% of our state's cities (with a population of 2,500 or more) to the Interstate System.  The GRIP system will ensure that 98% of all areas within the state will be within 20 miles of a four-lane road.   The Governor's Transportation Choice Initiative proposes to complete GRIP projects within 7 years.
