Vegetation Management Policy

VEGETATION MANAGEMENT POLICY

The Office of Utilities has updated and rewritten the vegetation management section of our 1988 Utility Accommodation Policy and Standards manual.  The existing vegetation management policy in Chapter 5 section 5.1.E.3 will be voided in its entirety and this update shall be incorporated as an addendum to Chapter 5 until an update to the 1988 manual is complete.   This policy will become effective January 1, 2002 with one exception.  The requirement for a certified arborist will be effective July 1, 2003.

This update takes into account the need to include more methods to control roadside vegetation and provide safe driving conditions.  The policy includes an annual schedule for the vegetation management activities such as mowing, chemical control, pruning and tree removal.  There is also a mitigation plan requirement for new utility facility encroachments on interstate and limited access routes.  Please review the new policies and associated forms.
