GUIDELINES FOR TECHNICAL STUDIES

FOREWARD

This is the first edition of this manual. There have been hundreds of man-hours expended in writing, assembling, and editing the various parts. However, we are aware that improvements will need to be made, and that is why we elected to use the three ring binder format. The Geotechnical QC/QA Sub-committee encourages the users of the manual to think of it as a "work-in-progress" and feel free to make recommendations for improvements. We ask that the user review the manual and use it for six to eight months to get familiar with its contents.

It is anticipated that the sub-committee will meet in November 2002 to take up recommendations for improvements. To make this an orderly process we suggest that the user keep notes for improvements on the enclosed sheets in the back of the manual. Please keep contemporaneous notes and in October 2002 send your suggestions to Tom Scruggs at:

Georgia Department of Transportation
Office of Materials Research
15 Kennedy Drive
Forest Park, GA 30297

Each suggestion will be given due consideration for inclusion in revisions to the manual. Your assistance in improving the private sector engineering services to the Georgia Department of Transportation is greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,

Donald E. Hill, P.E., Chairman
Thomas E. Scruggs, P.E., Co-Chairman
