Office of Communications
Responsibilities
The goal of the Office of Communications is to keep you informed about all of the services, programs and activities the Department is doing to maintain a safe, efficient and sustainable transportation network for Georgia residents. We are committed to serving as a liaison between you and the Department. Please feel free to use the Office of Communications as your resource for information about the Georgia Department of Transportation.
Responsibilities
The Office of Communications serves as the Departments liaison with the public, the media and employees. The office is responsible for providing statewide print and broadcast media with the latest information pertaining to transportation in Georgia. The office also prepares presentations and speeches for the State Transportation Board, Commissioner, division directors and office heads. The Department's premier publications are produce by the Office of Communications.
The Office of Communications is made up of two sections, External Communications and Internal Communications.
External Communications
David Spear, Assistant Director of External Communications
This section supervises all aspects of interaction between the Department and the public via the broadcast and the print media. It is responsible for handling media inquiries and keeping the public informed about the Departments activities by issuing press releases and facilitating media interviews. This section also produces speeches and presentations for the Departments top officials, and provides information on the Department during the legislative session.
The section is made up of the following units:
Internal Communications
Lillian Jackson, Assistant Director of Internal Communications
This section serves as a liaison between the Department and its employees. It is responsible for creating publications, employee newsletters, annual reports and fact books, maintaining the Departments web page and printing the quarterly construction status map. In addition, this section coordinates the Department's awareness campaigns.
