Situated within the City of Cordele's designated historic commercial district, the Cordele Streetscape project is located along US 41 in the Central Business District/ Main Street area. The project included
new lighting, landscaping, and sidewalks.
The site of the project is adjacent to the Historic Suwanee Hotel, which was originally built in the 1890s, but burned and was rebuilt in a modern reinterpretation. The project is also located in an area
listed on the National Register of Historic Places. During the Civil War, Georgia Governor Joe
Brown located the capitol from Augusta to Cordele.
The photos show the project under construction and after completion. The streetscape was completed in
December, 1998.
